The Moog Sub or Subsquent 37 is a two note duophonic or paraphonic analog synthesizer, with all massive set of parameters for sound design, all with that fat Moog sound. Arguably the best bass sounds you can get for a larger budget of around £1300 UK sterling for the tribute edition, not only is the sound top of the range but the build quality is too. Its capable of quality sounds as well as booming sub basses to stabby brass sounds, crazy effects and wonderful sequences.
It has a velocity and pressure sensitive three octave keyboard. The synth comes with an editor and library software that works within a DAW for archiving and restoring patches. The Sub 37 also lets you play the oscillators separately using the duo-phonic mode. It has two envelope generators, a lovely Moog filter section complete with multi-drive and a feedback loop option. There is an external input to process sounds from your other musical instruments through the analog signal path.
The majority of the controls are on the surface so playing the instrument is extremely hands on and totally fun whilst fast to get into. Each generator can be turned into a 5 stage LFO as a programmable wave shape. There is even an arpeggiator, MIDI connectors via standard DIN or over USB connector. What really sets this synth apart is that you can almost route any part of the signal path anywhere else!!
It’s a monosynth but not as we know it Jim!
